Arizona Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
Jr. RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is a free, four-day leadership camp for middle school students (outgoing 6th–8th graders) designed to help young people discover their potential, build confidence, and form meaningful connections—all while having fun.
This life-changing experience is made possible by the dedicated Rotarians of Rotary District 5495, who work year-round to raise funds so that every selected delegate can attend at no cost. Rotary believes every student deserves access to leadership opportunities, regardless of financial circumstances.
Held at Camp Wamatochick in Prescott, Arizona, Jr. RYLA combines the power of the outdoors with intentional leadership development to create an unforgettable experience.
At Jr. RYLA, leadership isn’t about titles—it’s about self-awareness, teamwork, and courage. Over four fast-paced days, delegates are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, try new things, and learn more about themselves than they ever thought possible.
Delegates leave Jr. RYLA with:
Increased self-confidence and independence
Strong communication and collaboration skills
A deeper understanding of their leadership style
Lasting friendships and a sense of belonging
Many delegates describe Jr. RYLA as a turning point—an experience that helps them grow into more confident, capable versions of themselves.
Jr. RYLA offers a high-energy, engaging environment filled with hands-on activities that challenge both the mind and body. Delegates participate in thoughtfully designed programs that promote leadership growth through experience—not lectures.
Activities include:
Personality and leadership style assessments
Communication and problem-solving challenges
Trust-building and team development exercises
Group discussions and reflective activities
These programs encourage delegates to think critically, collaborate with others, and apply what they learn in real time.
While leadership development is at the heart of Jr. RYLA, fun is a huge part of the journey. Delegates balance meaningful learning with classic camp experiences that build camaraderie and joy.
Camp activities include:
Sports tournaments and team games
Archery
Outdoor challenges
Our iconic rope course, a delegate favorite
Through shared challenges and victories, delegates learn how to lead, follow, support one another, and celebrate success together.
